These mugs are first thrown on the wheel and then trimmed when leather-hard. After that, I add the handles, cover the main body in white slip and scratch an organic design throughout. This scratching process is called Sgrafitto. It creates a texture and grip on the mug, as well as exposed the bare woodfire clay.
